Head Gardener Mark!

Hello and welcome to my little website, Gardening Rescue, where I share my knowledge on houseplants, herbs, roses and all things gardening!
If you have ever had a plant with its leaves turning yellow, leaves drooping or roots rotting on your plants, you are in the right place.
I absolutely love gardening, and I have learned a lot of lessons through trial and error. I do extensive experiments with things like different types of compost and potting soil for certain plants (to keep them alive) and research from a botanical perspective on how to get plants to grow bigger, more quickly, and more beautiful.
My goal with this site is to make plant care less confusing and frustrating and more enjoyable!

Who I Am?

Hi, I’m Mark Bennett, an experienced, qualified botanist and landscape gardener (I’ve been a full-time gardener for more than 15 years now!), and I’m the writer here at Gardening Rescue.
I’ve spent years growing and propagating every houseplant you can think of, troubleshooting plant problems (the ones that I encounter myself!), and sharing what I’ve learned with other aspiring plant parents.
I have my keen assistant, Libby the Labrador, with me in the house and garden at all times! Her enthusiasm for gardening is only matched by her enthusiasm for belly rubs!

My site was made with the vision of being a friendly, easy-to-digest resource, written in a relatable way, and ultimately be the resource I wish I had when I started growing in my garden and caring for my houseplants.
I try to explain the “why” when it comes to my advice, such as why you should use a potting medium with pine bark for your pothos, rather than just issuing instructions, because I feel that helps so much more.
What You’ll Find on My Website
At gardening rescue, my articles focus on…

I have step-by-step guides that are botanically accurate to help you diagnose and fix the issues you are having, such as yellowing leaves, drooping stems, root rot, pests, and anything else you can encounter.

Easy to follow instructions for propagation, cuttings, so you can make new plants for free!
✔ Houseplant Care Tips

Lighting, the right frequency of watering, the best potting mixes, repotting and fertilizing all explained from my own experience in clear terms.
Beginner-Friendly Advice
We all start somewhere with our gardening journey, and I am learning new things all the time (through my work in botany, my day job and by experimenting myself). Gardening is a journey of learning that keeps going!
Why I Started Gardening Rescue
I absolutely love writing and talking about plants, and honestly, sharing what I have learned by actually doing gardening is really interesting to me, particularly as some of my findings are contrary to popular advice (Monstera are not low-light plants, just so you know!)
I have made all the mistakes myself with houseplants to save you time!
